ARTS 495 Internship Criteria for all Studio Art majors

  1. Create: a resumé (visit career services or see your advisor) and get your portfolio samples together. 3–4 samples on a Behance website will work. Create a cover letter for an internship that interests you.
  2. Research: potential internships where you can work at least 160 hours over the course of the semester. Graphic Design students may complete up to two internships for department credit.
  3. Find out from your advisor if the internship meets department criteria:
    A. internships must be on-site
    B. you must have an on-site supervisor who is a professional in your area of concentration and can act as a mentor during the term of your internship (For graphic designers: you cannot be the sole designer at the organization.)
    C. internships must be with an established organization or studio
    D. all internships are at the discretion of your advisor and must be approved in order to receive credit.
  4. Apply to several internships (10–15). They are competitive and you increase your chances by applying to multiple internships.
  5. When you have obtained your internship, fill out the Confirmation_Form and turn this in to your advisor for approval. Take this signed form to the registrar.
  6. Read over the Deliverables. You will need to turn these in at the end of the semester.
  7. Keep an Internship_Hourly_Log during your internship.

At Mid-Term
Arrange a date with your faculty advisor to check in with your supervisor. This may be an on-site visit or phone conversation.

At the end of your internship
Ask your On-Site Supervisor to fill out the Evaluation_Form

Turn in your Deliverables to your internship advisor, a self-evaluation and a presentation to your peers.
